The Fine Art of Paul Henderson
When Paul was young, his father would often take he and his family out camping and hunting and fishing. Living in the Northwest, he grew to love the beautiful natural landscape and wildlife that surrounded him. He began sketching and drawing the beauty he saw in nature and continued to do so for many years. It wasn't until he graduated from college, however, that he began more seriously studying his passion. While working full time, he spent his spare time taking a variety of classes and workshops, experimenting with art, and mentoring under several accomplished artists. In the beginning, Henderson studied and painted mostly abstract art. But as time went on, his love for nature and wildlife took hold of him all over again. He dove head first into learning new techniques and understanding animal anatomy. He also mentored under Don Crook, who helped him gain a finer understanding of composition, color, and detail. Using what he learned, he then painted a series of wildlife paintings that incorporated his love for the animal kingdom into his fascination with history, archaeology, and multinational cultures. Additionally, Paul has painted a large series of space/fantasy pieces, and has recently begun other more experimental works. He challenged himself in 2009 to paint two paintings a day for a year. Though he did not quite meet his goal, he still completed a whopping 90 out of 104 paintings – no easy feat. This momentum has carried him forward to the present where he is continually evolving and experimenting with new subjects and media. Henderson loves the variety and the change, saying that it keeps him fresh and creative, and always inspired.
